FUNDRAISING AUCTION:
MASKULL LASSERRE ORIGINAL MIRFC BRONZE STATUETTE
Maskull Lasserre (www.maskulllasserre.com) was born in Alberta, Canada in 1978. He spent much of his childhood in South Africa before returning to Canada. He has a BFA from Mount Allison University (Visual Art and Philosophy), and an MFA from Concordia University (Sculpture). He now works out of studios in both Montreal and Ottawa.

Lasserre’s drawings and sculptures explore the unexpected potential of the everyday through allegories of value, expectation, and utility. Elements of nostalgia, accident, humour and the macabre are incorporated into works that induce strangeness in the familiar, and provoke uncertainty in the expected.

Lasserre has exhibited across Canada and in the United States. He is represented in the collections of the Government of Canada (Transport Canada, DND), Canada Council for the Arts, and the City of Ottawa, amongst others. He is also a recent participant in the Canadian Forces War Artist Program in Afghanistan.

This original bronze sculpture was commissioned for the MIRFC and is being auctioned off to raise funds for the club. With some 400 hours of time spent perfecting this masterpiece, Maskull has generously donated the sculpture to the club to help raise funds for our programs. It is a truly unique piece of art and the club thanks Maskull for his generosity.

Confidential silent auction bids may be submitted via phone, text or email to Jim Kellett (jkellett@3macs.com or 514-915-9344), or at www.montrealirish.com. The auction continues until October 20th, 2011. Opening bid is $2500.

Labelle Bouteille
Angiolino Maule, La Biancara, Gambellara, Veneto, Italia is a purist and he is the leader of the group called Vinatur. Maule’s vines are located on volcanic hills that provide an elegant taste to the garganega, the famous grape native from the area between Verona and Vicenza in Veneto. All his wines are unfiltered and no yeast are added. The vines are treated with lactic ferments as fertilizers, oats are grown between the vines for maintaining a low level of nitrogen, organic compositions made with various herbs are used in replacement to synthetic pesticides in order to treat the vines.

1. Masieri – 2008 (60 % garganega : 40 % trebbiano) – IGT Garganega del Veneto
This unfiltered white wine expresses the depth and flavours of garganega and the liveliness of trebbiano. The aromas of apples, hay and yellow tomatoes make this garganega-based wine unique and memorable.
2. Masieri rosso – 2008 (100 % merlot) IGT Rosso del Veneto
This wine expresses several vegetable and fruit aromas. The harvest is always manually made, the wine goes partly in steel and partly in wood. This wine is easy to drink and it introduces a good structure in mouth as well as a good tannic taste given by this Merlot del Veneto. No sulphites have been added to this wine that goes well along with pastas, red meat, and medium intensity cheeses.

Whiskey Information
COOLEY DISTILLERY
Cooley Distillery was founded in 1987 by John Teeling, an Irish entrepreneur who was unhappy with the monopoly in Irish whiskey by only one producer and recognized the potential for a traditional, quality oriented distillery. 20 years later, in the prestigious 2008 International Wine and Spirits Competition held in London, England, Cooley Distillery became the first Irish Distillery ever to win the coveted World and European Distiller of the Year Awards. These trophies are awarded to the distillery that demonstrates the highest quality in its range of spirits brands. Taste 3 of the great whiskeys from Cooley, Ireland’s only independent, Irish-owned distillery, on Thursday November 26 and support the Montreal Irish Rugby Club.
These are the 3 whiskeys we will be tasting:
Greenore 8 Year Old Single Grain Irish Whiskey
Greenore Single Grain is a truly unique whiskey as it is the only expression of Irish Single Grain whiskey in the world. Grain whiskey is made from maize (corn) producing a beautifully smooth, sweet taste. When this is coupled with the creamy vanilla notes achieved from maturation in exclusively ex-bourbon casks, the result is the distinct taste of Greenore Single Grain Irish Whiskey. Delicious before dinner, or with a dessert such as crème brûlée.
Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey
A brand steeped in history and heritage, Tyrconnell dates back to the glory days of Irish whiskey. Distilled in the old Irish tradition this pure pot still single malt whiskey uses only the most natural Irish ingredients of barley and fresh spring water.
Well structured with honey notes on the nose. On the palate, a tang of oranges and lemons and a strong malt presence that balances well with the oily sweetness. A long finish with the malt becoming more dominant to the end.
Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey
This rare and original find among Irish whiskeys is single malt, beautifully gilded in peat reek. Cooley Distillery resurrected the traditional Irish custom of drying the malted barley over peat fires with this peated single malt. The smoke rising through the malted barley during this drying process gives the whiskey a distinct peaty flavour and aroma. These traditional distilling methods combined with natural ingredients and long years in oak casks continue to create a whiskey that is simply exceptional!
