            <title>May 2012 Market Commentary: Jobs, Politics and the Stock Market</title>

<description>Recent economic indicators out of the U.S. have left investors anxious. Starting in the fall of 2011 and continuing into the first few months of 2012, economic statistics have been strong. Recently, they have not been as bright. Below is a graph of one of the most widely followed U.S. economic statistic (and many argue will determine the next U.S. President); non-farm payroll. The non-farm payroll number is the number of net new jobs being created in the U.S. during the month. As one can see, starting in the fall of last year, the number was improving but has recently weakened. The most recent two numbers (March and April) were 154,000 and 115,000, respectively, down from over 200,000 in December, January and February.</description>
